CHAPTER 7 REMOTE SURVEILLANCE
7.3 PORT FORWARDING
Port Forwarding allows computers and devices outside of your network to communicate
with the DVR. You will need to forward ports 80 and 6036 from the attached router to the
IP address of the DVR. Your router must be powered up and attached to the DVR before
proceeding.
STEP 1. Go to
www.portforward.com/qsee
STEP 2. Choose your DVR or
Series (QT4)
STEP 3. Select the make and
model of your router
STEP 4. To get the FREE
instructions, click the

upper right hand corner of
the page. You DO NOT need
to purchase the software
advertised on this page to set
up port forwarding.

A. Enter the port number for
your DVR and click “Check
by default these DVRs use
ports 80 and 6036
B. If the port is open, you will
see the following message,
“Success: I can see your
service…”
C. If the port is not open,
you will see the following
message, “Error: I could not
see your service…”
To resolve this issue, please go back to your DVR and change your port number to 82, 85 or
89. If, after trying all three ports and an error still occurs, contact Q-See Technical Support at
877-998-3440 Ext. 540.
NOTE! If you are successful after changing the port number, you will need
to add that to the IP address when accessing the DVR via the Internet.
If, for example, you changed to port 82, the address would now read
64.245.112.90:82
When you access the DVR from a remote computer you will need to use a different address in
the Internet Explorer browser window. Instead of entering the IP address of the DVR, you need
to enter the public IP address of the router to which the DVR is attached. You can obtain this
address by going to www.MyIPAaddress.com from a computer that is attached to the same
router as the DVR. This website will display a box with the IP address you need. It will be the
bold number where the example shows 76.254.183.54
Your computer’s IP address is:*
76.254.183.54
